S1: Dial. adv. Pelag. I, editor’s summary of chs. 1–3

  • Source: https://www.newadvent.org/fathers/30111.htm
  • Text: The NPNF editor summarizes the opening: grace is needed “in every act”. I haven’t extracted a direct quotation on justification from Jerome himself.
  • Context: A direct quotation from Jerome is still to extract. The Apology (IV) also quotes Jerome against the Pelagians (to verify).

REL S1: Against Vigilantius 5

  • Source: https://www.newadvent.org/fathers/3010.htm
  • Text: “Madman, who in the world ever adored the martyrs? Who ever thought man was God?” Jerome defends the honouring of “the relics of the martyrs” and the translation of relics of Andrew, Luke and Timothy to Constantinople.
  • Context: Written c. 406 against Vigilantius, who called relic-veneration “all but a heathen ceremony”. This shows a contemporary objection inside the church.
