S1: Comm. Gal. 2:16; Eph 2:8
- Source: Migne, PL 8, In Epistolam ad Galatas on 2:15–16 (archive.org, patrologiaecur08mign)
- Text: “ut non ex operibus justificemur sed ex fide, et fide in Christum: ipsa enim fides sola justificationem dat et sanctificationem” (“that we are justified not by works but by faith, and faith in Christ; for faith alone gives justification and sanctification”; my translation).
- Context: Rome, c. 360s (T3). Migne’s editor flags it as a ’notable saying’. The contrast is with returning to Judaism, but the clause is general. It supports reading B (works excluded as ground) without settling forensic versus transformative senses, since sanctification is named with justification.
